I Remember the Fun

 The Dance

One evening we went dancing
along with many others and
everywhere the guests were having fun.

By chance I was given flowers
before the dance
to match my pretty blue dress.

Songs were for
all the people there,
decorations everywhere,
and laughter was all about.

                                                                   ~Maddie Adams

Simple As That

 TWO OF A KIND

EVERYONE NEEDS SOMEONE THEY CAN TRUST!
HAVING A GOOD FRIEND IS IMPORTANT,
SOMEONE WHO WILL CORRECT ME WHEN I AM WRONG.

IF THERE IS A STRUGGLE,
GOOD FRIENDS WILL ASK, "DO YOU NEED HELP?"

IF YOU HEAR SOMEONE SPEAKING ILL OF ME
ANY GOOD FRIEND IS WILLING TO
TALK THINGS OVER.

THAT KIND OF FRIEND CAN HEAL
YOUR HEART AND GUIDE YOU TOWARD SAFETY.

Grand Things

 Here We Go
Spring is really a cool thing with so much to do,
 even more than two!

I see so many flowers, and so many showers.

We get cool weather
but you don't have to wear a sweater.

If we go to the parks, I see firework sparks.
BOOM-BOOM from the sky...
No Doom!

                                           ~Emily

Just Listen

 All Around, All Around

Beautiful spring noises,
birds chirping in daylight.
Wind blowing in the afternoon,
and wind chimes ching-a-linging,
while crickets will be chirping with all their might!

                                         ~Veronica

Determined

 Get Back Up!

We're practicing to build strength,
running, passing, sweating, and laughing.
Baseball losses make us blue,
but we never give up.

         ~Jess and Jazmyne

Hooray!

 Gifts
Springtime is here to stay with
her warm air that melts the ice and snow.
Then she brings us tulips,
poppies, daffodils, and daisies too.
Skies are sometimes blue with orange sunsets.
It's the season to be
"sneezin!"

She wants us to be planting
potatoes, tomatoes, beans, or
cucumbers so we can make pickles.
It's a messy business, with wild
hair, dirty nails, and muddy hands.
Put away your heavy winter clothes,
and get ready to ride your bikes.

It's time, it's spring!

                                               ~Mila, Kynlee & Adalyn

Outside Chores

 Important Work to Do

Snow days are long over!
Hurry outside to the garden
and let's plant vegetables.

Beans, tomatoes, and lettuce too,
while sunny days or rainy weather
will do the magic for me and you.
Snow days are long over!

                        ~Ja'Kaiden

On the Diamond

 Baseball
I love the game, running bases
and seeing familiar faces in the crowd.

It will get loud!

Baseball can get hard-
taking aim, throwing, pitching, and catching too.

Wear sunscreen though,
and don't forget to
give some to your teammates.

                             ~Henry

Such Gifts

 Our Seasons Change

Spring's here with sunny, hot play days.
Bees or butterflies
those pollinating friends,
flutter in a blue sky- having fun.

Bees give us their honey that's yummy,
for toast, cookies, and sweet pie.

Then spring welcomes summer with sparks
in the air and fireworks everywhere!
                                                                  ~Jade

Cheers!

 Playtime

Spring is the best for
flowers, birds, and warm weather.
Let's go right outside!

  ~Zachary

This I Know

 The Tide Returns

The tide returns, it will return that lesson ancient seas do learn.
The sands are washed, the pebbles churn,
the tide returns, it will return.

The sun descends, it will descend,
a fiery journey to the end.
A shadowed world begins to mend.
The sun descends, it will descend.

The heart endures, it will endure as a resilient spirit so strong and sure.
A quiet strength, a steadfast cure.
The heart endures, it will endure.

The tide returns, it will return
for lessons of the heart to learn.
                                                                     ~Noah

She's a Gem

 A Friend Poem

Having a close friend is an incredible blessing,
it's someone who is always there for you
and won't let you down.
Mine is wonderful because she hears me.

She won't choose one group of friends over another.
She  hears me.
We're planning a fun sleepover
but it hasn't happened yet.

If someone says bad or untrue
things to hurt me, she stops them.
My dear friend stands up for me!
She hears me
even if I'm mad or sad.

We Must Decide

 Remember This

The role of any
leader is different they say,
with many challenges.

So, be helpful
and others will follow you.

Set goals to organize people,
ensuring they feel calm and safe.

Important steps come first
and then play will be your reward.

Be humble, it builds trust
and proves you're a hard worker.

Solving problems is the
kind way-to-go while helping others.

                             ~Abel

Our 2026 Celebration

In April 1996 the Academy of American Poets set into motion the
first National Poetry Month, a celebration to highlight the joy
and satisfaction of creating poems to share with others.
Indeed, we know that #PoetryMatters!

Back in April, with ideas and talent from Mrs. Mikeworth's
5th grade volunteers, Parkside
had its very own Poet-Tree
Placed outside the library, it was an invitation for
interested writers from across the building to
create poems they'd be willing to share.

We welcome you to visit The Reading Room to see posts of
poetry boys and girls penned to "flex their muscles"
and come up with verse to put down on paper.

We know many youth really are poets
but they don't realize it....yet.

History & Legends

"I  find history inspiring, especially books about The Civil War
and life on the American frontier.  Reading give me ideas to
include in my paintings, such as ones from the book Guts and Glory.
                                                                       ~Lewis

"Stories by Mary Pope Osborne in her Magic Tree House
collection are filled with wonder & adventure.  I've read nearly all
of them and Christmas in Camelot is one you won't want to miss!"
                                                                     ~Mrs. Hayes

What Are the Guys Enjoying?

When interested in sharpening your skills, nonfiction books may catch your eye.
"Fishing is my passion so I read everything possible on my favorite hobby!"

"When in Jr. High School, I came across

Out of Your League by Dave Meggysey.
It made a powerful impression on me,

Gifts Bestowed Upon Loved Ones

When you love story time, just
choosing one
book is rather...a challenge!

Reading aloud to children is known to be an essential
activity for enabling them to gain knowledge & skills
necessary for independent reading success.

"When I was a little girl, my father read
Love You Forever to me...it was delightful.
Now I'm reading it to my girls."

It's Family Reading Night!

The distributive property of multiplication, not alluring.

Helping write a scarecrow story, more interesting.

But listening to someone read you a story?
